Mechanical shoot thinning is a technique in which shoots are removed with the aid of synthetic fingers to reduce shoot density in grapevines. The review by Kurtural and Fidelibus explains current practices of mechanization in winegrape vineyards, including planting design, pruning, canopy and crop load management, and mechanical picking. (See Kurtural and Fidelibus, pp.29–44.)
